The Problems with Affiliate Marketing.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online and has proved itself for more than 15 years, but so many people give up on it so what is the problem? Here is what I see from everyday interactions with new marketers coming into this field.
The top 11 problems of Affiliate Marketers.
Choosing the Right Niche.
One of the first steps in Affiliate marketing is choosing your market or niche. If you want to be profitable and successful you have to be careful in the niche you choose.
You want to find a niche that can both make you money and something you are interested in. You will be writing a lot of content for a long time so you want to find something you have a passion for and are knowledgeable about.
The answer to this is to do your homework. Look at the competition and also check out the affiliate programs and see if they are paying a decent commission for sales.
Signing up for Affiliate programs too soon. ( And too many )
Signing up for too many affiliate programs (and too soon) can be harmful to your success.
From reading your material, potential buyers will be able to tell how well you know your product. The more products you advertise, the less you know about each of them. Customers who begin to distrust your authority may have a negative impact on your sales.
Also, if you sign up too soon you will not have enough traffic ( Readers ) to generate sales. Amazon, for example, has a target for new affiliates of 3 sales in 6 months. If you are new to Affiliate marketing this will be a challenge and the result will be they will close your Affiliate account.
The first thing you should do is write enough good content to attract organic traffic to your website.
Lack of Research.
You can generate the proper material for your potential clients and hit the target with affiliate deals if you understand your readers problems, needs, and questions.
And the only way to figure out what your audience wants is to conduct research.
Join Facebook groups relevant to your industry and online platforms such as Quora, where you can connect with like-minded people and ask any topic you want.
You wouldn’t acquire a business without first looking at the books, and this is the equivalent of that.
Attracting Traffic.
Always remember that quality outweighs quantity when it comes to traffic. You want to be as specific as possible with your targeting. This will usually result in fewer unique visitors but better conversion rates. Basically, more sales from fewer people.
Of course, there are other ways to generate focused traffic. You’ll want to work on these other sources while you wait for your site to establish itself in the main search engines.
A good SEO strategy will also drive traffic to your sites which will help them to rank better and get more overall traffic to your website.
False Expectations.
Expecting too much too soon is a common problem. It leads to disillusionment and people quit after only a few months. Quite often this is because people have chased the “shiny object” and bought into the spiel of those marketers who are more interested in your dollars than the dollars you wish to make.
Treat Affiliate Marketing like any other business, you are not likely to turn a profit in your first 3 months, and depending on the content you write and how often ( along with so much more ) determines how quickly you will be successful.
Motivation or sheer stubbornness.
Self-discipline and self-motivation are required for success as a self-employed person. We give up what we thought of as “free time” to get our business to be successful, and it takes work.
That, as well as the fact that working from home is not for everyone. Although the concept is appealing, there are numerous home and family distractions to contend with. Not to mention the absence of clear direction and established procedures that we’re accustomed to from traditional jobs.
Prepare to put in the same amount of effort for yourself as you would for an employer. Keep in mind that you’re doing this for yourself and perhaps your family.
There will be mornings when you just want to stay in bed, but if you want to make money you have to put in the effort.
Writing Content.
Writing content is an issue for a lot of people. You’re not alone. Rather than just a mundane marketing task, good content should be considered as part of a discussion.
Start by thinking about the person who is going to read your article. Think about what question they may want answered. Think about what they could ask, and then imagine someone asking you that same question in person or on the phone. How would you answer it? Then start writing your answer, the same as you would say it.
Your content is a response to their search. You’re simply entering a discussion. Done right, you’ll satisfy their need and lead them to the clicking on the link you want clicked.
Finding Keywords.
What are keywords and why should we find them.? They will help you in 2 ways to start. The first is, they will help your ranking in SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ). And that is important because it will show your competition as well as what topics your readers are looking for.
If you are up against 200 other websites that have established authority and you have just started, you won’t have a chance of getting readers because your post will be on page 7 or worse.
Think how many times you have searched for something and gone through 7 pages on Google to get the answer. Probably never, right. So finding a good keyword research tool is essential to help your business prosper.
Shiny Object Syndrome.
There’s a lot of information out there about affiliate marketing and you’ll likely be bombarded with emails when you start looking. And normally by people who promise the earth, but with a price that matches.
This can make you jump from one shiny object or Affiliate course to the next without making any progress or money at all.
We have all seen the ads where people are “living the life” and driving around in Lamborghinis, drinking exotic cocktails, etc. and their pitch is I can help make you $10,000 in your first month. If they can do it, why are they selling expensive courses?
Wasting Time.
Wasting time on the wrong activities is easy to do when you have complete control over your time. You need to focus on the actions and activities which bring the biggest results into your business, not the ones you enjoy doing the most.
To be successful in this business you must look at all the areas of your business, from SEO to social media and fine-tuning your website for speed and ease of use.
I also see people after a few months of intense effort trailing off their work and becoming involved in social web activities to the exclusion of their business.
Lack of Knowledge.
The ability to run an online business is always evolving. Changes on the internet happen much more quickly; where it used to take months for things to change, it may now just take days.
You’ll need the resources to keep up with the changes, as well as the fundamental skills needed to run your own online business. There’s a lot to learn and stay up with these days.
Is it possible for you to do it on your own, and do most other businesses do it on their own? They don’t, so why do you think you can do it alone and be successful?
There are small business associations for small enterprises, management groups, and executive training for large organizations. So why do you think you can do it alone in Affiliate marketing and be successful?
My recommendation is to join an Affiliate Marketing group.
Who Do I Recommend and why?
My recommendation after looking at many Affiliate groups is Wealthy Affiliate. And why are they, my preferential group?
For almost a decade, Wealthy Affiliate has been a market leader. They offer comprehensive step-by-step training at a low cost, which is great for both novices with little expertise and veteran marketers looking to boost their earnings.
The company also provides a website builder and hosting service, a keyword research tool, an affiliate program marketplace, webinars, one-on-one coaching, a big community of like-minded entrepreneurs, private mentorship, and more.

Hey I absolutely loved this post!
It includes a lot of information which you’ll need to know before beginning the online journey! Most of what you have stated here is true, you have to be willing to work when others aren’t to see success and in abundance! If you can work for others why can’t you work for yourself. Just imagine what you can achieve if you start putting in that work for yourselves too! It may take time but one day you’ll see the result you were after!
Thank you
Thanks, Sariyah. Yes, it is not complicated but it does require hard work and dedication as you said.

I couldn’t agree more with this article, I made the mistake of starting a blog with something I thought was really cool but knew nothing about which ended up being my biggest mistake. The time it took to research, write and post was crazy. I also started it just a few weeks before I had a baby so I didn’t look at it again for months. I think it’s definitely important to note that if you are looking to start you need to make sure you have the time and dedication to get it started properly.
Thanks, Jess. There is certainly a learning curve for new Affiliate marketers but you have certainly worked it out.
