Wealthy Affiliate is a popular online platform that claims to help people start and grow their own online businesses. But is it really as good as it sounds? Or are there some drawbacks that you should be aware of before joining?
In this post, I will share some of the bad and good things about Wealthy Affiliate that I have experienced from my time here. These are not meant to discourage you from joining, but to give you a realistic picture of what to expect.
It can be Overwhelming.
Some aspects can be overwhelming. Wealthy Affiliate has a lot of features, tools, courses, and community activities that can be very helpful, but also very confusing. Especially if you are a beginner, you might feel lost and overwhelmed by the amount of information and options available. It can be hard to focus on one thing and follow a clear path to success.
The Social Side of Business.
Some members fall into the trap of turning the business into an extension of social media. They can treat this platform as an outlet to chat with others of like minds. You need to focus on the business and not on chatting with other members.
The main thing though is not to fall into the trap of using this site as a social platform and not concentrate on their business.
Upgrading to Premium Membership.
You need to join premium membership. Wealthy Affiliate offers a free starter membership that gives you access to some basic features, but if you want to unlock the full potential of the platform, you need to upgrade to the premium membership.
This costs $49 per month or $359 per year, which is not cheap for some people. With premium membership, you are provided with 2 websites at no cost but you will need to pay for hosting and some other web tools that are not included in the membership fee.
Promoting Wealthy Affiliate.
It can look like it is biased towards promoting Wealthy Affiliate. Wealthy Affiliate encourages its members to promote the platform itself as an affiliate program. This means that many of the reviews and testimonials that you see online are written by people who are trying to earn commissions from referring new members.
This could create a biased and unrealistic view of the platform and its benefits. However, as you will read further on this is deterred by the owners of WealthyAffiliates.
You might encounter some members who are overly positive and hype up the platform without acknowledging its flaws or limitations.
It is Competitive.
Affiliate marketing is competitive. It is sales-based based and any sales businesses are competitive.
Also, competitiveness is promoted within Wealthy Affiliate which has a ranking system that measures your activity and engagement on the platform. The higher your rank, the more authority and recognition you get from other members and the owners.
This does not provide income and I advise any new members to concentrate on learning and building their website.
This internal competitiveness could promote a stressful environment for you if you let it., My advice would be to focus more on building your business than increasing your ranking. In a nutshell, ranking is not banking.
Additionally, you might feel pressured or discouraged by comparing yourself to others who are more successful or experienced than you.` Don’t let it as they have probably been around a lot longer than you.
What are the Good Things about Wealthy Affiliate?

Owners and Members are Supportive.
The members and owners are very supportive. Wealthy Affiliate has a lot of features, tools, courses, and community activities that can be very helpful, but also very supportive. Especially if you are a beginner.
You will find a lot of guidance and encouragement from other members as well as the owners. The owners are very hands-on people and not “snooty” at all, which gives them a thumbs up in my books.
And you can easily ask questions and get answers, feedback, and tips from experts and peers. There is a daily chat room that runs continuously for questions etc.
Very Affordable.
It really is affordable especially when you start making a good income. Wealthy Affiliate offers a free starter membership that gives you access to some basic features.
Then if you want to unlock the full potential of the platform, you can upgrade to the premium membership. Paying yearly will also give you a discount rather than paying monthly.
You also get access to your own domain name, 2 free websites (As mentioned), and some other tools that are included in the membership fee. For example Jaaxy.
An Honest Community
Above all, they are very honest. Wealthy Affiliate does not promise you quick and easy results but rather teaches you the skills and strategies that you need to build a sustainable and profitable online business. The posts that are generated by the members at Wealthy Affiliate are honest and realistic. This realistic view is promoted by the owners of Wealthy Affiliate, Kyle and Carson.
Affiliate Marketing is rewarding because it frees you from your 9 to 5 job and replaces it with a very good income stream. It can be easy to set up and there are more and more people shopping online than ever before.

I have been with Wealthy Affiliate for almost 3 years and it took me over a year before I made my first dollar. There is now more competition in the Affiliate marketplace.
It is not for the fainthearted and there are times when you will suffer from self-doubt and wonder if it is worth it. But perseverance and hard work pay off and if you believe you have what it takes to work online, then sign up for a look.
It is free to have a look, however, to really make money you will have to join the premium membership at about $50 per month. In my opinion, it is a small amount of money when the rewards can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.
